Like most craft brewers, the owners of Millersburg Brewing Company, have a passion for beer. This led them to start creating brews in the basement of an old 1920’s building, and soon to establish the thriving company. Opened in 2012, Millersburg Brewing now distributes its beer throughout northeast Ohio and has grown its offerings season after season. But as the names of its beer show, this is a company that is true to its local roots.
Included among the favorite brews in the company’s roster are Lot 21 Blonde, a crisp ale named for the first settlement in Millersburg; French Ridge IPA, brewed in the West Coast style with an abundance of hops—its name is that of a beautiful section in Holmes County; and Panther Hollow Vanilla Porter is named for a haunted deep valley in the area. These are just three of the lineup of beers, including seasonal specialties, such as Edgy Elf, a Christmas ale that’s brewed with spices and has a definite attitude.
Speaking of attitude, note the company’s logo: a smiling horse. That’s Wild Rosie, and as legend has it, she was a local farmer’s horse and they both loved beer. When he stopped for a drink at the local alehouse, he always got Rosie a drink of beer too. If the farmer imbibed too much—which he often did—it was up to Rosie to get him home. And she always did!
Visitors can sample Millersburg Brewing Company beers at its downtown Taproom. The comfortable space makes lingering easy. There are always 12 beers on tap and a casual menu that offers snacks, such as pretzel sticks with beer cheese and a meat and cheese board, as well as five hearty sandwiches perfect for enjoying with a brew. Live music or karaoke on weekends also keeps the place hopping.
