A Hopping Guide to Stein Brewing Company

History in the Making

Did you know that beer had not been brewed for public consumption in Mount Vernon since the 1870s? In December 2018, Stein Brewing Company made history as the first brewery in Mount Vernon to opens its doors in over 140 years! The grand opening of this craft brewery was long anticipated. And, after 20 years of renovation and restoration to the old Woodward Opera House, David Stein found the perfect home for his exciting brewery concept.

Craft Beer Meets the Arts

Maybe you\’re looking for a way to beat the summer heat. Or, perhaps you’re searching for a warm, cozy place to enjoy a glass of beer and a show. Either way, Stein Brewing Company has it all!  The brewery is on the first floor of the four-story, 65,000 square-foot opera house in the heart of downtown Mount Vernon. A recital hall that seats up to 140 people is on the second floor, and the third and fourth floors are home to the opera house.

Live music is on the calendar at the Woodward Opera house most Fridays and Saturdays. If you’d like to pair a show with your brewery trip, take a look at the opera house’s event calendar! The brewery itself also hosts fun beer events throughout the year, like happy hours, fantasy sports drafts, and more.

What’s Brewing on the Menu?

Stein Brewing Company houses an impressive selection of Ohio-made beers. There are ten taps in the brewery’s restaurant and more than 20 taps in the taproom. In addition to the six to 12 beers brewed by Stein, there is an extensive menu filled with canned and bottled Ohio-made craft beers. If beer tasting works up an appetite, the brewery restaurant offers plenty of quick bites, like nachos and sandwiches. If you’re curious about this week’s craft beer rotation, visit the company’s Facebook page to see what’s on tap.
