Mohican Valley Trail

The Bridge of Dreams is a covered Bridge spanning over Mohican river in a fall season. Knox County. Ohio. USA

This scenic, 5-mile trail goes between Brinkhaven and Danville. This trail offers views of the Bridge of Dreams, a 370-foot covered bridge spanning the Mohican River. When you come for your picnic, you can grab some grub from Jackie’s Sandwich Shop in Danville. When you arrive, you’ll be able to park near the bridge and find the covered picnic area with tables, grills, and outhouses.

Kokosing Gap Trail

A mightier trail on the list, the paved 14-mile strip allows guests to walk, bike, and roll the entire length. You’ll see fun sites there, like the old-fashioned locomotive and the Kokosing River that flows alongside the trail. Picnic tables can be found closer to the Danville side of the trail, and for a bite to eat, try Panchos Tacos, just a few minutes up the street.

Ariel-Foundation Park

Red Bridge at Ariel-Foundation Park

Spend the whole day at this massive 250-acre park, one of the best experiences in the area. This park was built on the site of a former glassmaking factory and features architectural ruins, an observation tower, natural features such as lakes, and more. For a delicious dining option, try some takeout and generous portions from Lola’s Fresh Taqueria right off Columbus!

Honey Run Highlands Park

Honey Run Waterfall Park. Howard. Ohio

Named after its nearby stream and waterfall, this park is open year-round, offering you and your group natural beauty and miles of walking trails. This site also serves as habitat for many of the state’s endangered and threatened wildlife species, including the barn owl, bobcat, and wild turkeys. Since this park isn’t too far from Danville, we’d recommend picking up some casual favorites at The Hangout, over on Market Street. Once you’ve got your food, head to the second parking lot, where you’ll find a shaded pergola with picnic tables!

Dundee Falls

Dundee Falls Ohio

Explore this hidden gem in the Beach City Wilderness Area. Featuring rivers, lakes, streams, and hikes, the centerpiece of this beautiful preserve is the roughly 15-foot-tall waterfall that you can walk right up to! In terms of wildlife, wood ducks, cottontail rabbits, and raccoons roam the area. Plan a special picnic by bringing a blanket up to the top of the falls and setting up with either some prepared meals or, if you want to make it extra special, grab a bite of some classic country-style cooking from Dutch Valley Restaurant in Sugarcreek and enjoy the scenery.
