A wine and cheese outing

Ok, so I realize this is the second blog in about as many months that talks about wine tastings. We don’t want you to think we’re alcoholics. But we do enjoy wine. And one of our favorite Ohio wineries is Ravens Glenn. It’s located about a 40 minute drive from the inn, on highway 36, just 10 miles East of Coshocton.

Ravens Glenn sit on the banks of the Tuscarawas River, overlooking a golf course. The winery’s restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. Prices are reasonable. We visited there last week and had the pleasure of trying their new Estate bottled wine, White October. It’s a little higher priced than some of their other offerings, butYvonne thinks it’s worth the difference. Being a red drinker, Ian still prefers the Merlot or the Syrah. What we like about sending our guests to Ravens Glenn is that they offer wines to suit all tastes. They have sweet and fruity wines, including peach, raspberry and blackberry wines. They have semi-sweets like Reisling, Vidal Blanc and White Zinfandel. And they have dry red and white wines like Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Red Zinfandel and Pinot Grigio.

After visiting the winery we took a little side trip, about 10 miles up Ohio 93 to Pearl Valley Cheese. There we bought our favorite Vintage White Cheddar, and some of their award-winning smoked Swiss. Just a few miles further is the charming little town of Baltic, where the former Mill still sells flours and other bulk foods, as well as kitchen gadgets and gift items.

If you start your day with a visit to Historic Roscoe Village, enjoy lunch and a wine tasting at Ravens Glenn, and then a quick trip to Baltic and Pearl Valley, you have the makings of a delightful day’s expedition from the inn.
